MBA, PG youth held for robbery

The regional sales manager of a firm was arrested with six others, including two postgraduate youth, for allegedly robbing an NRI in East of Kailash area, the police said on Saturday.

The accused have been identified as Kuldeep Tomar, 28, Essar’s regional sales manager in Delhi, Naved Khan, 30, an economics postgraduate, and Mohd Sawez, 21, a management graduate from Amity University. The other accused are Ravi Kumar, 27, Rahul Pawar, 20, Gagan Deep, 24, and Neeraj, 22. A US-made pistol, a revolver with four live cartridges, two cars, two motorcycles, a cellphone, a laptop, two gold rings and cash were recovered from them.
The accused are suspected to be involved in four cases of robberies. “They took to crime to earn quick money. Khan, the suspected mastermind of the gang, had lost his job and didn’t have money to pay back his debt. He was in a live-in relationship and could not support his expenses,” said DCP (south), H.G.S. Dhaliwal.
“Tomar, pursuing his MBA in retail management, was living a lavish lifestyle and was not able to send money to his parents and started committing robberies to earn quick bucks,” Mr Dhaliwal said.
Sawez had done his MBA from Amity University and was unemployed. He has earlier been arrested in a robbery case in Jamia Nagar. “He has a girlfriend in Virginia, US, and he wanted to meet her. He decided to make quick money for arranging air tickets,” the DCP said. Sawez’s father works in the British high commission.
The arrests were made following investigations into a case wherein an NRI was allegedly forced to sign three cheques by the accused after they barged into his East of Kailash residence and held his family hostage. “One of them got one cheque encashed while others held the family hostage till his return,” said DCP Dhaliwal.
