MCD to auction advertising sites

The MCD has decided to come up with policy measures to rake in moolah by providing outdoor advertising spaces in the city. The MCD plans to use the “unipole sites” as well as spaces in and around its parking lots for outdoor advertising.
According to a MCD spokesperson, the civic body has set for itself a target of `60 crores in this financial year and `66 crore for the 2011-12 fiscal. The sites at the MCD parking lots will also be exploited. Towards this, the MCD is inviting response for Sadar Paharganj, City and Rohini zones. The tendering procedure would be held between February 7 and 15.
The issue of the civic body lacking financial resources to meet its basic needs, let alone fulfil various ambitious projects, has been a constant in the past one year and the opposition Congress has been attacking the ruling BJP on this count, time and again.
In the budget discussions, the Congress councillors have alleged that though so many promises have been made by the BJP in its budget proposals for 2011-12, there was simply no mention of how the revenue will be arranged for the projects. The BJP, on the other hand, has been accusing the Delhi government of not releasing its legitimate dues.

MCD seals 4 Paharganj guesthouses
AGE CORRESPONDENT
NEW DELHI

Feb. 5: The MCD has resumed sealing of guesthouses in Paharganj. At least four guesthouses were sealed on Friday for violating the 15-metre height norm. At least a dozen such guesthouses have been identified and action would be taken against them in the near future, said MCD officials.
The civic body is also preparing a list of guesthouses in the area for which conversion charges are due.
Earlier, the MCD had sent notices to a large number of guesthouses and threatened to seal them if they did not pay conversion charges and followed building by-laws.
