MCD drive to keep Delhi clean

On the occasion of Mahatma Gandhi’s 144th birth anniversary, the municipal corporations in Delhi launched a special sanitation-cum-cleanliness drive on Wednesday ahead of the festival season, which will last till November 15.
The three corporations — North Delhi Municipal Corporation (NDMC), East Delhi Municipal Corporation (EDMC) and South Delhi Municipal Corporation (SDMC) — launched the drive in their respective zones.
North Delhi Municipal Corporation public relations officer Yogendra Singh Mann, “We decided to launch the drive on Gandhi ji’s birthday as he called ‘cleanliness as next to godliness’ and this way we want to spread the right message to the people in keeping our environment clean.”
The drive was kicked off from the historic Town Hall in Chandni Chowk, where NDMC officials garlanded Gandhi’s old statue in the adjoining Azad Park.
NDMC commissioner P.K. Gupta said, “The drive would emphasise on micro-level monitoring over day-to-day cleanliness of all areas, lifting of solid waste, cleanliness of public urinals, Community Toilet Complexes (CTCs).”
Repair and maintenance of roads, footpaths, pavements, maintenance of parks, streetlights and high-mast lights, will be among other issues. It will include an action plan as per date-wise, ward-wise and zone-wise data and will seek active participation of citizens, RWAs, and market associations.
