MCD gets Rs 1,500cr govt grant
Against the MCD’s demand to grant Rs 3,533 crores, the Delhi government on Monday released Rs 1,500 crores to the agency, keeping in view its financial situation.
The decision to release the funds came after a delegation led by mayor P.R. Sawhney called on Delhi finance minister A.K. Walia. The delegation, which also comprised c
hairman of the standing committee Yogender Chandolia and Leader of the House in the MCD Subhash Arya, asked Dr Walia to take a “sympathetic view” of the financial situation.
Dr Walia released Rs 100 crores as an extra grant for education, health and roads. A further Rs 500 crore loan — to be recovered within three years — was also released. Further, Rs 900 crores has been released as early instalments. Dr Walia asked the agency to use these funds as stimulators to improve its financial situation. The delegation had demanded Rs 1,286 crores on account of loss in collection of property tax, an additional Rs 597 crores from plan fund for roads, education, medical and community centres.
