MCD hindering inquiry: Police
Appearing before a division bench comprising Delhi high court Chief Justice Dipak Misra and Justice Manmohan, standing counsel of the Delhi police, Najmi Waziri, filed an affidavit and submitted that the MCD was not cooperating with it in the investigation into the ghost employee scam in which salary was paid to more than 22,000 non-existent staffers.
Mr Waziri told the court that the investigation would be carried out by special police commissioner (vigilance) S.K. Jain but the related documents have not been supplied by the officers of MCD.
Opposing the submissions, the MCD lawyer Sanjay Jain said that relevant papers have already been supplied to the police and it that other documents would be provided within two weeks.
The division bench directed the chief vigilance officer of MCD and a competent person from M/s Transline Co, the company which has installed biometric system in the MCD office, to appear before the special police commissioner on every Saturday for verification of various documents in connection with the 22,853 ghost employees.
Apart from this, the court directed that the in-house inquiry report prepared by the additional commissioners of MCD on the ghost employees scam be placed before the police for scrutiny and sought a detailed report from the police by October 27.
