MCD issues notices to buildings
The MCD has issued notices to more than 600 buildings for allegedly carrying out illegal construction in the area around Lalita Park, where a building collapse on November 15 had led to loss of more than 70 lives. The MCD has been carrying out a survey of dangerous buildings in the area as the problem of flooding of basements due to sub-soil water continues.
According to the MCD standing committee chairman, Yogender Chandolia, notices have been issued to at least 638 buildings in Shahdara (south) zone. “These buildings have been constructed illegally without getting the building plans sanctioned. We are giving them an opportunity to get it regularised,” Mr Chandolia said. In case the buildings are found to be too weak, they will have to be demolished either by the owners themselves or by the MCD.
