Mcd may move court against trifurcation

Though the city government has called a Assembly session to pass the bill for trifurcation of MCD, the BJP has not surrendered yet. Mayor Rajni Abbi indicated opting for a legal battle.

“If the proposal has been cleared in the format being reported in media, the BJP-led MCD would approach court. After the 73rd and 74th amendments, the Article 243 stipulates strengthening of local civic bodies. The proposed trifurcation goes against it. How could elected members of civic bodies report to a director,” she said.
Delhi BJP chief Vijender Gupta also slammed the move calling it unconstitutional.
“The trifurcation of the MCD has been done under a political conspiracy. By creating a post of director local bodies by adding Section 484 of DMC Act, the Delhi government has tried to keep its control over the new corporations. How can the government appoint a bureaucrat as a boss of the candidates elected by people?” he asked.
