MCD nod to sports policy for athletes

Catching up with the recent exploits of the Indian athletes in the Commonwealth Games and also at the Asian Games, the MCD on Tuesday approved the proposal for having a sports policy to prepare future athletes.

Forwarding the proposal, chairman of the sports committee Ajit Tokas told the MCD’s standing committee that the civic body can target young boys and girls, who study in the primary schools run by the Corporation, and give them the right training and platform and help them perform in the sports arena.
Mr Tokas added that presently the MCD can begin by giving training to young kids in the indoor sports like judo, taekwondo, swimming and gymnastics to begin with. Later, the MCD may go for the outdoor sports like track and field.
