MCD offers scheme for tax defaulters
Facing a cash crunch, the MCD has come up with a house tax settlement scheme for those whose dues are pending under the old rateable value system (RVS). The old system had been discontinued after March 31, 2004, being replaced with the unit area method (UAM) of calculating property tax.
MCD standing committee chairman Yogender Chandolia on Thursday said that if the property owner pays the tax amount up to the latest date, he may be allowed assessment using the RVS. There are about one lakh cases pending under the old system, he said, adding that the scheme would be limited only for settlement of ex-parte cases.
A public notice will be published in this regard following which the scheme would be available till January 31, 2011. Mr Chandolia said that this was the last time for those whose dues are pending under the RVS. The dues can be self-computed and an application has to be submitted to the MCD for settlement.
