MCD rolls back proposed new taxes
The BJP-led Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) has rolled back all the taxes which were introduced in the MCD budget 2012. The MCD standing committee rejected the additional taxes claiming that the MCD is already in profit.
Earlier on December 7, Delhi BJP president Vijender Gupta and Leader of the Opposition in Delhi Assembly Prof. V.K. Malhotra ordered the MCD to roll back the decision. This decision could have damaged the party in the municipal elections scheduled next year.
“The BJP is confident that if taxes are recovered properly from the present sources then all the necessary expenditures of the corporation may easily be met,” said Gupta.
The MCD executive wing had proposed hike in property tax, parking rates and introduce a new congestion tax in the congested areas of walled city, Karol Bagh market and Paharganj to generate revenue.
The Delhi BJP had claimed that the decision was taken at the behest of chief minister Sheila Dikshit.
