MCD seeks high court permission
In view of the upcoming Commonwealth Games, the MCD on Friday approached the Delhi high court seeking its permission for removal of a slum cluster near the Jawaharlal Nehru (JLN) stadium and modify its earlier order passed by a division bench on February 11 restraining the civic agency from removing slum cluster without their relocation.
Moving the Delhi HC, the MCD filed an application before a division bench comprising Justice Baddar Durez Ahmed and Justice S. Muralidhar for modification of the order, after facing a great difficulty.
The bench, after going through the application, directed the MCD officials and counsel for parties to visit the place for relocation of about 16 families and find a remedy for their rehabilitation by Saturday before removing them from the slum clusters near Thyagraj stadium. Standing counsel Najmi Waziri, appearing for the MCD, said about 16 families have occupied a small but a space near the stadium blocking the road connecting to the JLN stadium. Mr Waziri further told the court that during the CWG, there would be movement of thousands people both on foot and in vehicles which would endanger the lives of these people. Many development projects were being undertaken to facilitate the holding of the CWG and a Road Under Bridge (RUB) was being constructed connecting JLN to Thyagraj stadium.
