MCD wants Lt. Gov to sort out issues
The chairman of the MCD’s works committee, Mr Jagdish Mamgain, has written a letter to the Delhi lieutenant-governor seeking his intervention to resolve the deadlock between various agencies so that the corporation’s Commonwealth Games 2010-related projects could be completed on time, at least for now.
Mr Mamgain has mentioned in the letter that many of the works were to be completed by March 31 this year, besides a few others slated to finish by June 30. However, the works were yet to be completed.
Though not ruling out procedural delay and negligence of contractors, Mr Mamgain has pointed out specific instances where agencies like the BSES, the NDPL and Delhi Jal Board, besides forest department and the PWD, have been stalling the MCD projects. For instance, the LG had directed the BSES to remove four transformers on Bhisham Pitamah Marg, which connects the Ring Road to Sewa Nagar and is an important component around the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, for widening and improvement of the road. This direction was given on February 20, 2009. However, the transformers have not been shifted despite 18 months having passed.
Some other projects like improvement and widening of road leading to Dr Karni Singh shooting range have been delayed due to lack of necessary permissions from the forest department.
The same department and the Delhi Jal Board (DJB) has also delayed the Mundka road under-bridge (RUB). On the other hand, NDPL and DJB have led to delay in completion of RUBs at Badli, Mongolpuri and Sawan Park, he said.
