Mentally-challenged girl raped by uncle

A 20-year-old mentally-challenged woman was lured by her uncle to south-west Delhi’s Najafgarh on January 7 and allegedly raped consecutively for five days, the police said on Tuesday.

The police said the accused has been identified as Sultan Singh, 40, an ex-CISF constable. “He lured his mentally-challenged niece to his Gopal Nagar residence on the pretext of celebrating his mentally-challenged nine-year-old daughter’s birthday on January 7. He then allegedly sexually assaulted her on the same night,” said Sharad Aggarwal, deputy commissioner of police (southwest).
According to the police, Singh, who is at present working as a property dealer, was arrested from his residence on Tuesday evening after being on the run for a couple of days. “Singh, whose wife passed away four years ago, has two daughters; aged nine and seven. On the fateful day, he called his niece and asked her to come over to celebrate his nine-year-old daughter’s birthday,” a senior police official said.
“After they finished dinner, his niece and daughters retired for the night, Singh went into her room and forced himself on her. He took away her mobile phone after sexually assaulting her and kept her locked in the same room for the next five days,” the officer said.
According to the police, it was only after the victim’s husband, finding that his wife’s phone was not reachable for the past five days, contacted Singh and demanded to talk to his wife and then asked her to come home.
“Singh then started threatening the victim to keep mum about the assault,” the officer said.
The police said the victim approached the local police station after relating the incident to her husband. “We were looking for Singh after the victim’s medical examination confirmed the sexual assault. He was arrested after he fell for a trap laid outside his residence which he used to lock from outside to pretend that he was away,” DCP Aggarwal added.
