Mercury may rise to 46ºC today
Scorching heat and high levels of humidity virtually sapped Delhiites of their energy on Tuesday. Though the maximum temperature did not surpass the highest in the season so far, it broke the record of last five years by 2.6 degrees Celsius.
The humidity level on Tuesday morning was 26 per cent above normal. Moreover, no respite is likely in the next couple of days and the mercury is likely to soar further.
According to the weatherman, the maximum temperature in the capital was 44.6 degrees Celsius (four degrees above normal) and the minimum temperature was 29.6 degrees (three degrees above normal).
The season’s highest temperature was recorded at 45.4 degrees Celsius on May 17.
The Ridge area experienced a high of 45 degrees Celsius, while at Palam the maximum temperature recorded was 46.3 degrees. Neighbouring Gurgaon singed at 46.4 degrees, while Hindon area in Ghaziabad experienced a high of 45 degrees.
Hot and dry winds due to western disturbance will continue to singe the region.
A high of 46 degrees Celsius and a low of 30 degrees Celsius has been forecast for Wednesday.
