Met to give hourly info on weather
In an attempt to prevent bad weather from affecting the schedule of Commonwealth Games, the authorities have decided to install a dedicated system to forecast weather conditions around the venues on hourly basis starting next week.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) officials said the system is designed to provide the organisers and the participating athletes a weather forecast for a period varying from one hour to five days so that the preparations for the Games’ events are not affected. “Venue-specific forecasts will be announced by the department which will help athletes and organisers to conduct Games smoothly. We will start providing forecast from next week,” a senior IMD official said.
The officials said the main centre for the Games venues will be established at IMD headquarters situated on Lodhi Road and the system will provide forecast of temperature, humidity, heat index and wind factor during the 13-day mega event which starts October 3.
“The system will help organisers to decide whether to reschedule events in case of bad weather. The weather forecast will be made from September 15 and the announcements will be made every four to five hours daily. We will also provide daily updates to the organisers and a separate cell has been established at IMD headquarters for this,” the official said.
The officials said that 60 automatic weather systems (AWS) have already been installed in the city, which will forecast weather on a real-time basis.

Sept. 5: The Delhi police on Sunday conducted second round of trials on dedicated Commonwealth Games lane on two stretches. The trial was conducted on NH-24 Nizamuddin Khatta, T-point to Noida More and from Indraprastha College traffic signal via Ring Road to Chhatra Marg.
