Metro cuts Gurgaon trip to 27 min
The Delhi Metro made its entry into Gurgaon on Monday, fulfilling the residents’ long-awaited desire for a quick, convenient ride. However, the Qutab Minar-Gurgaon Metro link opening was marred by the theft of signalling cable between two stations by unidentified persons, leading to a delay in train services for some time.
The 14.47 km link connecting Qutab Minar with Huda City Centre in Gurgaon was thrown open to the public at 8 am and revenue services commenced simultaneously at both stations.
The formal inauguration of the full stretch will be done when Qutab Minar will be further linked with Central Secretariat-Jehangirpuri Line.
A brand-new broad gauge train, which began its first journey at 8 am from Qutab Minar, chugged into Huda City Centre station at around 8.30 am. People were eagerly waiting for a ride in the train.
Meanwhile, the signalling cable, which was laid between Sultanpur and Qutab Minar stations, was stolen on Sunday night by unidentified men and was noticed Monday morning. Due to this, trains were run on manual mode from Sultanpur to Qutab Minar stations on Monday after the services began at 8 am, DMRC official said.
“Train services were affected between the stations. Usually, the travelling time from Qutab Minar-Gurgaon is 27 minutes and since the trains were run on manual mode between Sultanpur and Qutab Minar, the journey took 30-32 minutes. The cables are being relaid and operations will be normal from Tuesday,” they said.
DMRC will initially put five trains on the corridor that will connect Gurgaon with south Delhi.
The trains will run at a frequency of 12 minutes, a DMRC spokesman said, adding the number of trains will be increased gradually.
The DMRC plans to run 60 trains on the entire stretch at a frequency of 3 minutes.
Once the entire section (Huda City Centre-Central Secretariat) becomes operational, passengers can hope to reach the millennium city in around an hour from Connaught Place in the heart of Delhi.
