Metro to Gurgaon from next week
The Metro line to Gurgaon is set to become fully operational in the first week of September as the Commissioner of Metro Rail Safety R.K. Kardam has confirmed August 30 and 31 as the date of inspection of the Central Secretariat-Qutab Minar stretch. The DMRC will also make operational Chhattarpur Metro Station on the Qutab Minar-
HUDA City Centre corridor, the first station made fully of steel, from 6 am on Thursday. The trains on the corridor have been skipping the station till now as it had not been ready. The CMRS inspected the station and approved it for opening. He will inspect the Central Secretariat-Qutab Minar section on Monday and Tuesday for clearance and the line will be opened in two-three days.
The DMRC had last week invited the CMRS to inspect the line as it was planning to throw open the line by the month-end. But Mr Kardam demanded more documents from DMRC because of which the inspection got delayed.
Once the 12.53 km-long Central Secretariat-Qutab Minar corridor is integrated with the 14.47 km Qutab Minar-HUDA City Centre line, it would reduce the travel between Delhi and Gurgaon. It will take half the time to reach Gurgaon from Connaught Place as compared to at least 90 minutes by road. The entire distance of around 42 km from Jehangirpuri-HUDA City Centre will be covered in less than 90 minutes. DMRC will then run 60 trains on the stretch at a frequency of 3 minutes.
