Metro to Qutab to begin Sept. 3
The Central Secretariat-Qutab Minar Metro corridor is ready for commissioning and its formal inauguration will be done on September 3.
Union minister for urban development S. Jaipal Reddy will inaugurate the line. Chief minister Sheila Dikshit will also be present.
The section will be opened for the public from 3 pm on Friday, when commercial operations will commence.
The Commissioner for Metro Rail Safety (CMRS), R.K. Kardam, completed his inspection of the corridor on Tuesday and a formal clearance is expected shortly.
This is a 12.53 km-long corridor and has nine underground stations namely the Udyog Bhawan, Race Course, Jor Bagh, INA, AIIMS, Green Park, Hauz Khas, Malviya Nagar, Saket and one elevated station, the Qutab Minar Station. The stretch from Qutab Minar to Huda City Centre, Gurgaon, is already operational.
With the opening of this line, the total length of the Jahangirpuri-Gurgaon corridor will become 45 kilometres which will be covered in about one hour and 20 minutes. It will cost `29 to a passenger to travel from Huda City Centre to Jahangirpuri.
The total operational Metro network will thus become 138 kilometres with 117 stations when this important link connecting Central Secretariat to Gurgaon becomes operational.
Meanwhile, the ministry of textiles, in collaboration with the Metro will be showcasing various traditional folk arts of India in the form of paintings, textiles, handloom artefacts, murals at the INA Metro Station.
It will be inaugurated on Wednesday and will become a permanent feature for the visitors of Delhi Haat.

IM suspect attacked in Tihar cell

Taking a serious view of the incident, in which Delhi serial blasts case accused Salman, a suspected Indian Mujahideen (IM) terrorist, was attacked inside his cell in Tihar Jail, additional sessions judge (ASJ) Santosh Snehi Mann directed the authorities to transfer Salman to another cell and sought a response from them by Wednesday.
The accused, Salman, submitted before the court that he had been brutally assaulted by blade-wielding attackers in his cell on August 27.
The court remarked, “This is something not acceptable at all.”
