Metro services affected after power line trips
Delhi Metro services on the Line 2 remained affected for over an hour on Tuesday due to repeated tripping of over head electrification (OHE) on one of the trains, causing severe inconvenience to passengers.
The services were delayed for an hour at 1.40 pm on the Line 2 (Central Secretariat-Jahangirpuri) after flashes were noticed on the rear pantograph of a train at Rajiv Chowk which was on its way from Central Secretariat to Jahangirpuri.
The emergency trip system was used to cut off power supply to the OHE by Metro staff at the Rajiv Chowk station after the flashing was detected on top of the train in account of potential transformer failure. A train on its way to Jahangirpuri from Central Secretariat also had to be evacuated at Patel Chowk as train movement was stopped on the line but this train was still inside the tunnel with passengers.
“The passengers were deboarded keeping in view their safety. The services were restored at 2.42 pm,” DMRC spokesperson Anuj Dayal said.
The delay caused severe inconvenience to passengers on the Line 2, who were stranded at many stations and Rajiv Chowk.
Huge queues were seen at the Rajiv Chowk station, which is one of the most crowded in the Metro network, with passengers not aware of why there were no services. Some people were also seen asking for a refund of their tickets.
