Metro stuck for 45 min after snag
In yet another technical glitch, a Metro train with over 300 passengers on board got stuck in the tunnel between Patel Chowk and Central Secretariat stations on the Gurgaon line for over 45 minutes on Wednesday.
The train stopped some metres away from the Central Secretariat Station due to a technical glitch at around 12.50 pm following which the services got disrupted for about an hour. Commuters, including women and children, spent anxious moments as they were stuck in the train on the underground route
“There was a problem in the internal braking communication system of the train. The train applied its special safety parking brakes as per the safety design of the train management system,” DMRC spokesman Anuj Dayal said later.
A rescue train took the train to the Central Secretariat Station after a technical team released the parking brakes. The passengers breathed a sigh of relief on reaching the station. The train was then taken to the Green Park depot for observation and the manufacturer Bombardier has been asked to investigate the matter.
Metro train services were affected from 12.52 pm to 01.58 pm between Patel Chowk and Central Secretariat stations, said Mr Dayal. However, the services from Rajiv Chowk to Jahangirpuri and from Central Secretariat to HUDA City Centre remained normal.
Several passengers complained that they were not given any information regarding the problem.
Passengers at stations, including Rajiv Chowk, were seen asking for refund of their tickets.
Meanwhile, three stations, including the busy Rajiv Chowk, will close two hours before the scheduled time on Friday due to security restrictions in the area.
Rajiv Chowk, Barakhamba Road and Mandi House stations will close at 9 pm on New Year’s eve and the sale of tickets at the three stations will stop at 8.45 pm.
