Metro trial runs to start by weekend
The Metro trial runs on the Gurgaon-Qutub Minar stretch are likely to begin by the end of this week as the Gurgaon-Central Secretariat line nears completion.
The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation has asked the commissioner of Metro Rail Safety to inspect the two kilometre line. As per the initial plan, the Gurgaon line had to be operationalised in two phases but later the DMRC decided to open it in one go.
“The Qutub Minar-HUDA City Centre section is likely to be opened by June and the Central Secretariat-Qutub Minar corridor will be thrown open the following month. The trial runs from Sultanpur-Qutub Minar will begin on May 15.
and will go on for a month. The section will then be opened to the public once the DMRC gets clearance from the CMRS,’’ a Metro spokesperson said.
The civil work on the Qutub Minar-Gurgaon stretch is almost over, while 95 per cent of civil work has been completed on the Central Secretariat-Qutub Minar stretch.
The Qutub Minar Metro Station will give an impetus to the area around Qutub Minar once it is opened. It is expected that more than three lakh passengers will use the Metro line daily by 2011.
According to the ministry of culture, Qutub Minar is already India’s second most preferred tourist destination after the Taj Mahal with a revenue earnings of Rs 10.42 crores as compared to about Rs 15 crores from the Taj Mahal in 2009.
