MHA asks Delhi govt to relieve top officials
After the end of the Budget session of the Delhi Assembly, the Union home ministry is learnt to have asked the city government to relieve top officials whose transfers were temporarily suspended in February following a request by chief minister Sheila Dikshit.
The Union home ministry in February had transferred a number of senior officials of the city government, after which Ms Dikshit had taken up the matter with the home minister P Chidambaram and the Prime Minister Manmohan Singh. Ms Dikshit had stated that the transfers would hamper the Budget making exercise of the city government. The transferred officials were allowed to stay till the Delhi Budget. However, the city government in another letter to the home ministry had sought further extension of the stay. The Centre in February had transferred principal secretary (PWD) K.K. Sharma, Delhi Jal Board CEO Ramesh Negi, commissioner of trade and taxes Jalaj Srivastava, transport commissioner R.K. Verma and industries commissioner Chetan Sanghi out of Delhi.
