Militants held in Nizamuddin
The special cell of the Delhi police has arrested an alleged militant affiliated with the banned People’s United Liberation Front (PULF) along with his associate from Hazrat Nizamuddin area of southeast Delhi on Tuesday.
The police sources revealed that a team of the cell laid a trap on Tuesday evening after a specific input about the movement of the alleged militants. “Two men on a red colour Pulsar bike were stopped near Nizamuddin flyover for checking and later detained when they failed to produce the documents. The two were thoroughly questioned after which they were identified as Mohammad Abbas alias Fazlur and Mohammad Riyaz-u-din, both hailing from Manipur and affiliated with PULF.”
The police said Abbas was involved in several cases of extortion and murder in Manipur and had escaped from police in 2008. “Abbas is involved in more than nine cases of murder and extortion along with separate cases of vehicle theft. The two had sought refuge in the city and were carrying out their operations from here,” a special cell source said. “Their interrogation revealed that they had been committing auto thefts and other crimes for the last two years and were active in Manipur, Delhi and Uttar Pradesh. The duo had been living in Indira Vikas Colony area in Mukharjee Nagar since 2008,” the official said.
Joint commissioner of police (special cell) said, “We have recovered some documents from the accused.”
