Ministers to look after Games work
With just eight days to go for the opening of the Commonwealth Games here, chief minister Sheila Dikshit on Friday made all her Cabinet colleagues in-charge of select areas across the capital. The ministers have been asked to oversee infrastructure preparedness and ensure that corrective measures are taken wherever required.
The decision was taken in a Cabinet meeting presided over by the chief minister in the wake of the city government coming under severe attack from various quarters for lack in preparation for the mega sporting event.
The chief minister had attended a meeting called by the Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on the issue where she was reportedly asked to utilise all resources at hand to ensure that the Games preparations are completed speedily.
Ms Dikshit is learnt to have asked her ministerial colleagues to be on their toes to ensure that no further slippages take place.
It has been learnt that the chief minister has entrusted responsibility of particular areas to all her ministers. She has asked them to regularly visit the areas to check whether the infrastructure was up to the mark. The ministers are expected to take corrective measures if needed.
Sources said that the ministers have been asked to oversee the newly-built infrastructure, particularly the newly-laid roads.
