Minor girl’s throat slit, kin poisoned

A four-year-old girl was found with her throat slit and her mother and younger brother were allegedly poisoned by unidentified assailants at their rented residence in Baljeet Nagar area of central Delhi on Monday evening.

According to the police, the incident was reported at around 8 pm from Baljeet Nagar of Patel Nagar police station. The deceased has been identified as Sunaina while her mother, Sushila, 35, and brother Dev, 2, have been admitted to a city hospital in a critical state.
The matter came to light when Divya, the elder daughter of Sushila, reached home after attending private tuition. “She found her mother and brother lying in an unconscious state on the first floor of their house. Divya had initially seen the duo lying there in the afternoon when she returned home from school. But she had presumed that they were taking afternoon nap. When she came back from tuition and found the duo still there, she started searching for her younger sister and found the door of the kitchen locked from outside. When she opened the door of the kitchen, she found Sunaina lying in a pool of blood. Her throat was slit with a sharp object,” said an investigating official.
Divya started screaming for help which caught the attention of neighbours and the police was alerted. The trio was taken to Ram Manohar Lohia hospital where Dev was been admitted in a critical state while Sunaina was declared brought dead.
In her statement to the police, Sushila has alleged that Prakash, a native of Rajasthan, who lives in the same building, offered them fruit juice on Monday afternoon, in which sedatives were allegedly mixed. The mother-son duo had fallen unconscious after consuming the drink and regained consciousness in the hospital.
“Prakash is emerging as the main accused in the case. We are looking for him. He has switched off his mobile phone, which clearly indicate that he is the prime suspect in the case,” said a senior police official. This is the second such incident to have happened in Patel Nagar area. Earlier in July, a 34-year-old housewife and her five-year-old son had been brutally stabbed to death at their home while the woman’s husband was away attending a party with friends. The police is clueless about that incident as well.
