Minors die of asphyxiation in manhole
Three people, including two minors, died of asphyxiation inside a manhole in the Adarsh Nagar area of northwest Delhi on Tuesday afternoon.
The police officials said the deceased have been identified as Babu Lal, 17, Ravinder Kumar, 27, and Harish Maini, 17. They were working at Badhai Banquet Hall in Adarsh Nagar, owned by one Bhandari, who has been arrested for negligence.
The police sources said Babu and Ravinder were cleaning the back side of the hall. After cleaning the hall, Bhandari asked them to clear up a blockade which had developed inside a manhole. According to police, the two went down but apparently felt dizziness due to the toxic fumes present inside the manhole. “They inhaled toxic gas present inside the manhole and became unconscious,” a police officer said. Dalip Maini, Harish’s father, said his son was forced by the owner of the banquet hall to go inside the manhole.
