Mixed response to digitisation
On 31st October, there was a huge surge in the installation of set-top boxes in the metro cities, especially in Delhi. A total of 105,180 boxes were installed, out of which approximately 65,000 boxes were installed in Delhi alone.
This huge increase in the number of boxes installed in Delhi has taken up the Cable TV digitisation to 95 per cent in Delhi.
It has been noticed that there is a huge surge for obtaining set-top boxes in Delhi.
Masses have expressed their disagreement with the cable TV digitisation. Neha Malhotra, a homemaker said, “TV is a necessity. It is a part of every household and now TV viewing will also be made dear.”
Another discontented TV viewer, Ramesh Sharma, said, “The price of every commodity tangible or non-tangible is getting expensive under this system. With this new introduction, entertainment is getting expensive as there is usually more than one TV per household. TV digitisation is going to cost much to a service-class family if they wish to connect all their TV sets with set-top boxes.”
Dhruv Kumar, an MBA student, said, “Digitisation is definitely good for the viewers but imposing the system on everyone seems a bad idea. In addition to this, the pricing is too much. Had it been kept down the masses would have been happier.”
Tanya Shekhawat, a businesswomen, said, “Citizens should be free to choose their practice of TV viewing. The guidelines should not be imposed on viewers.”
