MLA raises Games issue in House

With only 45 days remaining for the Commonwealth Games, the preparations seem to be far from complete. The issue has been raised formally by an Opposition MLA, Sahib Singh Chauhan, in the Delhi Assembly and it will come up for discussion in a couple of days, when the government is expected to tender a formal reply.

Meanwhile, the MLA claimed that the Delhi government in a reply sent earlier to his question about the Games preparedness has admitted that there were around a dozen projects which were not even 50 per cent complete. “As per the reply given by the government, out of 23 projects being executed by the Delhi government and a few other agencies, around a dozen are not even 50 per cent complete,” said Mr Chauhan. “I wonder if the government will actually be able to complete these projects. They are yet to explain the possibility of these getting completed in a span of couple of weeks when they have not been able to complete it in last two or three years,” said Mr Chauhan. The government reply, as claimed by Mr Chauhan, mentioned that the work of streetscaping is only 40 per cent complete, the one related to creation of parking lots for the Games is barely 50 per cent complete. The task of greening the areas around various Games related venues is only 40 per cent complete.
Further, the work on the parking at Millennium Park, which is a Rs 5 crore project, is only 30 per cent complete, the reply mentions. Similarly, the parking project at Safdarjung Airport is around 40 per cent complete.

With only 45 days left the

With only 45 days left the Government should get up from its backside and hand over building/ repairing/clearing to the Army and pay it the remaining amount of money left over for completing the facilities as compensation for completing the job. It should penalise the buliders/parties who have delayed their deadlines by either not clearing their bills or by enforcing any penal clauses in the contracts for non performance.. In addition these agencies should be blacklisted from future contracts.
In Sydney "Daily Telegraph" runs a page daily on the mess that is CWG. The correspondent, Jessica Halloran, despatches reports from Delhi practically everyday with pictures of unfinished work. Australians laugh at the bungling and corruption of India and we from India cringe at the irrefutable evidence present! Are we so bad as a nation? Don't these bloated, mindless politicians and their minions have any shame?
