MLAs’ salary hike demand turned down
In a jolt to Delhi legislators demand for higher salary, the Centre has rejected a proposal of the city government in this regard. Assembly Speaker Yoganand Shastri on Monday informed that the proposal had been turned down by the home ministry.
The Centre has reportedly rejected the proposal on the grounds that some of the facilities sought were not available even to MPs. However, a Delhi government official stated that the proposal would be modified. The Delhi government is likely to send the modified proposal to the Centre by taking into account the objections raised by the Centre.
A proposal approved by the Cabinet had sought to hike a legislator’s gross monthly salary from `42,000 to `80,000-90,000 along with a host of perks, including free air travel and allowances.
