Mom, daughter in coma after assault
A woman and her daughter slipped into coma after being assaulted by a youth at their Lajpat Nagar residence on Friday morning.
The police officials said the victims, identified as Monica and her daughter Megha, were assaulted with an iron rod at around 6.30 am allegedly by a 25-year-old youth i
dentified as Ankur Sabbharwal, a resident of Ashok Vihar area of northwest Delhi at their B 13, Lajpat Nagar II residence. The residence is owned by Bharat Bhushan Bhutani, who stays on the first floor. The youth was allegedly having affair with Monica’s elder daughter.
On Friday morning, Ankur, whose father is a businessman in northwest Delhi, walked into the B 13 residence and attacked the mother-daughter duo. The victim’s husband, Sanjay Mangal, a transporter, was out of the house at the time of the incident.
Hearing the screams of the mother-daughter duo, the neighbours alerted the police control room and the victims were taken to Moolchand hospital where they were admitted in a comatose state. The police has registered a case of attempted murder against the accused at Lajpat Nagar police station.
Investigations have suggested that the accused was having an affair with the elder daughter of Monica. However, she was against the relation and prevented her daughter from meeting Ankur.
“I saw a young man parking his silver Santro car (DL 8C J4987) outside a bank. He later started walking towards my house. Moments later, I heard Monica and Megha calling for help,” Mr Bushan, who was out for a morning walk, said. The police said the accused was making his way out of the area after thrashing the two when Mr Bushan chased him and tried to catch him. However, the assailant kicked him and left behind his car in panic which helped the police in tracking the accused.
