Monorail in city by 2017: Sheila

Chief minister Sheila Dikshit said on Tuesday that Delhi would get its first monorail corridor between Shastri Park and Trilokpuri by 2017. Speaking at a Indo-Japan seminar, Ms Dikshit said, “We will start with 11-km monorail between Shastri Park and Trilokpuri. We hope that by 2017, we will get the first monorail in Delhi.” Monorail can negotiate sharp turns and is particularly useful in congested areas. Union urban development minister Kamal Nath also spoke in favour of developing monorails in Indian cities. “I have been pushing for monorails because new technology involved is making them much more effective,” Mr Nath said.
