The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) will run 187 extra train trips on Tuesday to handle the rush of commuters on Raksha Bandhan and will deploy additional personnel on the day.
Trains will be run at peak-hour frequency from 8 am to 8.30 pm on Tuesday and 21 trains which are normally withdrawn from lines during off peak hours (12.30 pm to 4.30 pm) will be kept in service for 187 extra trips making a total of 2,484 trips on the day.
The DMRC will also deploy more Customer Facilitation Agents to help and guide commuters.
The extra manpower will be deployed at Dilshad Garden, Shahdara, Welcome, Seelampur and 17 other stations.
Extra personnel will be deployed to handle the increased load on the ticketing system.
The Delhi Metro normally witnesses huge rush of commuters on Raksha Bandhan as about one lakh extra people travel on the day every year.
Meanwhile, Japanese foreign minister Katsuya Okada, who is on a two-day official visit to India, on Sunday took a ride on the Delhi Metro and gave suggestions to improve the system.
Mr Okada took the Metro train from Central Secretariat to Patel Chowk on the underground line.
