More traffic curbs for Games now
People in south Delhi and adjoining areas will have to bear with the more traffic restrictions from Tuesday morning as Delhi police has decided to close the Surajkund Road for a week due to shooting competition at Dr Karni Singh Shooting Range falling on this crucial link road.
An advisory issued by Delhi police stated that the road will remain out of bound for common people for a week from Tuesday due to the Commonwealth Games shooting competition. The police said that Suraj Kund Road from Mehrauli to a T-point on Badarpur Road to roundabout at Suraj Kund Mela ground will remain closed for general traffic from 6 am till the last event at the venue.
“This is being done to facilitate movement of Games-related traffic to the stadium and due to security considerations. These restrictions will remain in place till October 13,” special commissioner of police (Traffic), Ajay Chadha told reporters.
“People are advised to avoid Suraj Kund Road and take Pul Prahladpur and Mathura Road as alternative routes for journey between Faridabad and Delhi,” he said.
The Delhi Transport Corporation has made arrangements to facilitate the movement of spectators from all over the city.
Meanwhile, the number of Games lanes violators crossed 1,000-mark with 98 people being challaned since Monday morning. The police also sent notices to 57 people in this connection. The police has so far collected `22.30 lakhs in fine from the violators.
