Mother-in-law flung baby, says accused woman
A day after a woman was held for allegedly throwing her 11-month-old child from the second floor of her residence, the accused has claimed that her mother-in-law was the one who flung the toddler.
Speaking to reporters at a police station here, Pooja Sharma said, “I am not the killer of my own child, my mother-in-law is responsible for the death of my child.”
The incident took place on April 20 in Janakpuri area when Pooja had an altercation with her in-laws over some issue, the police said.
In a fit of rage, she allegedly threw her child from the second floor of her house, leading to his instantaneous death.
Pooja told the police that her mother-in-law Chander Kanta, had snatched her child during the altercation and thrown him from the balcony.
Her mother-in-law, however, refuted the allegation, and Pooja’s husband, Rahul, also has held her responsible for the death of the child.

Man elopes with mother of 3 a day after his wedding
Ghaziabad, April 22: Leaving his newly-wed bride in the lurch, a man eloped with a mother of three children a day after his marriage, the police said here on Sunday.
Sanjay got married at Parikshat Garh in Meerut district of Uttar Pradesh on April 19 but the next day, he eloped with another woman in his neighbourhood who is a mother of three children, SP (rural) Jagdish Sharma said.
The woman’s husband then filed a police complaint against the groom, the SP said, adding, the newly-wed girl’s family, too, filed a complaint. — PTI

Drunk man puts lit cigarette in pocket, injured

A drunk man sent the police in a tizzy near Vayu Sena Bhavan on Saturday night. The sozzled man, put a lit cigarette in his pocket following which his clothes caught fire. The incident occurred near Vayu Sena Bhavan in Tughlak Road area of New Delhi district. The victim, later identified as Akil, suffered burn injuries, He was heavily drunk.
“He is resident of Meerut Cantonment. Two passersby tore off his clothes to save him but he suffered 20 per cent burns. He was taken to the LNJP Hospital,” said the police while denying that the man had tried to commit suicide by setting himself on fire.
