MP, MLAs among 15 challaned
At least 15 people, including an MP, two MLAs and a senior transport department official of another state, have been challaned for driving in vehicles with red beacons unauthorisedly. The challans were issued during a special drive which started on January 4.
“For the first day, it was good 15 prosecutions. You know who were the violators. One MP, two MLAs, a transport commissioner of a north Indian state, many zila pramukhs and block presidents,” said joint commissioner of police (traffic) Satyendra Garg on Wednesday.
The accused have been prosecuted for flashing red-beacons for which they are not entitled to, the officer added. Mr Garg further said: “We have fined self-proclaimed VIPs who are not even entitled to use the red beacons”.
