No flouting norms, govt tells schools
The Delhi government has issued notices to over six schools for asking about parents’ education as it is against the Right to Education Act. The government has instructed the schools to abide by the norms else their admission
process would be cancelled.
“The directorate of education has issued notices to six schools for asking qualification of parents in registration forms. The government has earlier made it clear that such practice will not be tolerated as it is against the RTE,” a senior official said.
The schools issued notices are DPS Rohini, Summerfields, St. Marry’s, Alchon school in east Delhi and SL DAV school in Trans Yamuna area. These schools were found to be incorporating discriminatory criteria for points.
Delhi education minister Arvinder Singh Lovely said, “It was decided after receiving requests from a large number of parents”.
“Strong action will be taken against schools, who violate the provisions of Right to Education Act in the admission process. The Delhi government will remain vigilant in this regard to ensure that all schools maintain transparency in admissions,” the minister said.
With regard to the economically weaker section (EWS) students, the government will particularly ensure total transparency and ensure that every child gets admission. The minister directed all deputy directors of education department to hear admission-related problems of parents on regular basis from 10 am to 1 pm in their office.
Meanwhile, in a first of its kind attempt, nurseryadmissions.com, a portal where parents discuss nursery admissions-related problems and other issues, has launched an SMS alert service at 56263.
“The caller has to send a message ‘NURSERY FREE’ in capital letters to start getting SMS alerts regarding nursery admissions. The only condition is that the callers’ number should not be listed in Do Not Disturb directory,” activist and founder, nurseryadmissions.com, Rajan Arora said.
