No pension, PF for prof till inquiry
The pension and provident fund of the former head of the chemistry department of the Delhi University will be held back till the probe into the Mayapuri radiation leak is over. The DU and Delhi police are simultaneously carrying out a probe into the Mayapuri scrap market radiation leak, the source of which originated from the chemistry department.
“Prof. Parmar had applied for voluntary retirement scheme before the Mayapuri leak happened. People have right to retire when they wish to. His pension is with us, his provident is with us. He will not get clearance till the time this matter is looked into by the committee,” DU vice-chancellor Prof. Deepak Pental told this newspaper.
Prof. Virinder Singh Parmar was the head of the chemistry department when the radiation leak occurred. The department had held auction in the month of February.
Among other material, a gamma irradiator that had cobalt pencils was also auctioned off without disposing off the radioactive material.
The gamma irradiator was gifted by Canadian government to former Prof. B.K. Sharma.
