Nothing much for Delhiites

Although there was nothing special for Delhiites in the Rail Budget, the travellers to and from the capital will benefit from various measures annou-nced by railway minister Mamata Banerjee. Some of these include increase in the frequency of existing trains, introduction of new trains, extension of route of some trains and implementation of train management system.

A double-decker AC train from Delhi to Jaipur and a new Shatabdi Express from the city to Ludhiana will be launched. The trains that will now ply on all weekdays are Bikaner-Delhi Superfast Intercity Express, Delhi-Puducherry Express, Delhi-Garhiharsaru-Farukhnagar passenger, New Delhi-Ajmer Shatabdi Express, Nizamuddin-Dehradun AC Express, Dibrugarh Rajdhani Express and Chetak Express. Besides, two additional passenger trains have been announced for the Delhi-Ghaziabad route.
Those complaining of unclean linen in trains may get a better deal with more mechanised laundries being proposed in various cities, including Delhi. The budget also proposes giving Internet access on the Delhi-Howrah Rajdhani Express as a pilot project.
Congestion at the New Delhi Railway Station (NDRS) may lessen with the train management system being implemented. The budget also proposes implementation of the system for advance booking of retiring rooms for passengers in transit.
The Gwalior Express from Chhindwara has been extended till Delhi. The Chhindwara Express has been extended from Jhansi to Delhi. A passenger train from Delhi to Saharanpur has been extended to Farukhnagar, while Delhi-Shahjahanpur passenger train has been extended till Sitapur Cantonment.
