Nursery guidelines to be announced today
The Delhi Government is all set to announce a new set of guidelines for this year’s nursery admissions, which is likely to be a mix of last year’s point systems and random selection proposed under the Right to Education Act. The new guidelines will be announced on Wednesday.
“We will announce the guidelines tomorrow,” Delhi Education Minister Arvinder Singh Lovely said.
The Delhi government held several meetings with all the stakeholders before finalising the guidelines. Private school managements have been favouring 100-point system devised by the Ashok Ganguly Committee three years ago while the HRD ministry advised random selection process as prescribed under the RTE.
“We have adopted a middle path in finalising the guidelines,” a senior official said.
The Delhi government sought advise from the HRD ministry as to how to go about random selection of students.
Chief minister Sheila Dikshit is opposed to the idea of random selection as she feels it will create more confusion. In its meeting with Ms Dikshit earlier this week, the private schools had also demanded that management quota in private schools be retained.
