OC puts Games Village off MCD purview
The MCD will not be taking care of preventive measures for mosquito breeding in the Common-wealth Games Village for which the organising committee has decided to give the contract to the Pest Control of India (PCI). However, the MCD will work towards mosquito breeding prevention in and around all other Games venues. Meanwhile, the total number of dengue cases in the capital crossed the 800-mark, including cases of patients coming from outside the state.
Talking to this newspaper, chairman of the MCD’s health committee V.K. Monga said that the residential premises related to the Games will be under PCI.
“We will carry out a mapping exercise of all the event venues, including the training grounds, in order to identify the exact points where breeding is likely to take place. The work on this will begin on Monday and once we have done the mapping, we will go ahead with preventive measures,” said Mr Monga. He added that, if need be, the MCD would train the PCI staff in mosquito breeding prevention measures.
“In the case of MCD, the OC would not have paid any money though it would have required deploying extra staff, equipment and material. But in case of a contract, they would pay the PCI. As it is, our resources will have to deployed all across the city,” said a source.
On Sunday, the total number of dengue cases in the capital went up to 802 with 59 new cases being reported.
