Offenders’ list to go on website
The Delhi police will now post the names of people convicted for drunken driving on its website. The step has been taken as a part of the plan to clear the roads of traffic violators and educate people against the dangers of drunken driving. “We are mulling the possibility of posting the names of those convicted for drunken driving on the website. We don’t think that there could be any problem as it is a list of people who were jailed by court,” said joint commissioner of police (traffic) Satyendra Garg.
Last year, over 10,800 people were fined for driving under the influence of alcohol. Out of this, driving licences of 580 were suspended while 710 people were imprisoned upto ten days. In 2008, a total of 7,579 people were prosecuted for drunken driving while the following year saw a steep increase in challans to 12,109. The police attribute 40 per cent of road accidents in the city to drunken driving.

Gupta flays rise in PNG, CNG prices
Age Correspondent
New Delhi
Jan. 2: Delhi BJP has said that the hike in the CNG and PNG prices would adversely affect people in the city. It said that the people already reeling under shooting prices would find kitchen cost going up further. Delhi BJP chief Vijender Gupta said that the kitchen cost was already up by 30 per cent and now by raising the price of cooking gas the government has further burdened the households. “The kitchen cost will now go up 40 per cent,” said Mr Gupta, while calling upon chief minister Sheila Dikshit to resign if she can not work for the interests of the people.
He said that in the last 18 months, the price of CNG has been hiked seven times. “Now, it has been raised to `29 per kg. Public transport will become costly. The local transportation of goods will become costly resulting in the increase of prices of essential commodities,” Mr Gupta said.
“Delhi government wasted huge amount in bunglings and now it has increased prices of liquor, milk, gas, vegetables and other commodities,” said Mr Gupta.
