Officials blame rains for tardy pace of work
While the foot-over bridge connecting the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium with the parking lot collapsed on Tuesday at least 23 labourers injured, the engineers involved in the project feel that incessant rains are leaving various projects unfinished.
Delhi chief minister Sheila Dikshit earlier in the week stated, “It seems that the rain god is unhappy with us. I will appeal to the rain god to bring some sunshine so that work can be completed.”
Shockingly chief engineer of the foot-over bridge project, Rakesh Mishra, after the collapse stated, “The prolonged monsoon in Delhi has become a major hurdle to complete the Games-related projects.” However he refused to take the blame on himself for the collapse of the bridge.
The authorities have blamed the rains for non-completion and extension of deadlines of Games-related projects, which were already running behind schedule.
Rain also lashed several parts of the city on Tuesday affecting the last minute mad scramble to finish Games projects. The showers also brought along the usual problems of waterlogging and traffic snarls.
The rain gauges measured 16.6 mm of rains till 5.30 pm.
