Officials sure Village will be ready before deadline
With 25 days to go for the Commonwealth Games Village to be handed over to the Games organising committee, the authorities are confident that work will be completed on time. There were reports that at some places in the Village certain fittings and furnishings were missing. However, the officials clarified that a few replacements were required as they did not meet the specifications.
According to government officials, the Indian Tourism Development Corporation has begun the job of furnishing the towers and has completed around nine or 10. There are a total of 34 towers in the village and the remaining will be handed over to the ITDC by the DDA on a day-to-day basis as they get completed. “The work is going on at a good pace and the flats should be ready to welcome the athletes and the delegates by the deadline of August 31,” said an official. Initially, however, the ITDC was supposed to have furnished the flats within three weeks of hand over from the DDA.
There were also some reports about the furnishings missing in some of the flats. However, a senior government official clarified that at a few places some of the items did not meet the specifications and had to be removed.
“By the time, they were replaced, an impression was created that they were missing,” said an official.
Sources, however, pointed that due to labour shortage, the pace of work could be speeded up only in the last few days.
The furnishing work required installation of TV sets, refrigerators, furniture and decoration pieces in a proper manner.
