Old couple asphyxiated in S. Delhi
A 65-year-old doctor and his wife apparently died at their residence in south Delhi due to suffocation from poisonous gases from a gas-heater in their room.
The police said that the incident took place at a flat in Paryavaran Complex in Lado Sarai at around 2.30 pm. The deceased, identified as Avinash Prasad and his wife
Prerna, 58, were found unconscious in their third-floor flat on Thursday morning by their family members and some neighbours, who immediately called the police control room.
“They were taken to a nearby hospital where doctors declared them brought dead. The couple, living alone, had purchased a gas heater recently,” a senior police official said.
“They forgot to turn off the heater on Wednesday evening. Since the door of bedroom and all its windows were closed, poisonous gases accumulated in the room,” the official said. The police is suspecting that the couple died due to suffocation. The post-mortem of the deceased will be conducted to ascertain the exact cause of death and to rule out any foul play.
