Opposition attacks govt over issue
The Opposition BJP on Friday attacked the city government for having failed to regularise unauthorised colonies in the capital despite provisional regularisation certificates having been given to them just before the Assembly elections in 2008. Delhi urban development minister A.K. Walia, while defending the government, stated that the process of regularisation is being carried out.
Moving a private member resolution in the House for regularising 1,639 unauthorised colonies, BJP MLA Sahab Singh Chauhan questioned the delay in completing the regularisation. The resolution was later defeated in the House. Dr Walia gave a brief detail of the difficulties being faced by the government in regularising all the colonies. “Sincere efforts are being made to provide all the basic amenities,” stated the minister, adding that the government was expediting the process of regularising the colonies as soon as possible. He further stated that the Urban Development Department has been closely monitoring progress of the regularisation process.
