Opposition wants Sheila resignation

Delhi chief minister Sheila Dikshit came under heavy fire from the Opposition on Tuesday for the abuse of power by her party’s MLA to get his daughter admitted to a Delhi University college.

The Opposition demanded immediate dismissal of the CM as her parliamentary secretary and congress MLA Mr Tarvinder Singh Marwah allegedly misused his post for the admission of her daughter in Delhi University on the basis of fake documents. A delegation of BJP leaders met police commissioner Mr B.K. Gupta on Tuesday to lodge an FIR and arrest, demanding the arrest of the accused in the case.
Meanwhile, Mr Marwah resigned from the post of parliamentary secretary to chief minister Sheila Dikshit following the allegations.
“Mr Marwah is the parliamentary secretary of the CM and it is a clear case of misuse of the CM office. Mr Marwah misused the letter of CM office for the admission of his daughter in Mata Sundari College of the Delhi University. The police commissioner has assured us that a FIR will be lodged and culprits will be arrested,” said Delhi BJP president Mr Vijender Gupta.
He also alleged that Mr Marwah got his daughter admitted in Bachelor of Arts course in Mata Sundari College in July 2011 by submitting “forged” marksheet of higher secondary examination of Madhya Pradesh State Open School, Bhopal.
“The case came to light in July 2011 when the school from Madhya Pradesh replied to the college in that the student, who is the daughter of Mr Marwah, did not appear in her exams. This means that the certificates used to get admission were fake. The sections under which the FIR should be lodged is non-bailable. We also sought assurance of immediate arrest of the culprits from the police commissioner,” Mr Gupta said.
Mr Gupta also said that the BJP will meet home minister P. Chidambaram to demand a CBI probe into the fraud. The college authorities had lodged a written complaint with IP Estate police station on Saturday against Mr Marwah, his daughter and others.
