Patient ‘harasses’ GTB female staff
The entry of female paramedical staff has been restricted to the VVIP ward of Guru Tegh Bahadur Hospital after complaints that a former IAS officer admitted in the ward misbehaves with female staff.
According to hospital sources, former IAS officer S.K. Singh was admitted to the hospital for about one month. He insists that the nurses sit in his lap, holds their hand, and passes lewd comments. A nurse requesting anonymity said, “The patient calls us to his ward, and compels us to have coffee with him. He often passes personal comments.”
Moreover, the patient often threatened the female staff of dire consequences if they complained against him, the nurse added.
Doctors at the hospital said that 80-year-old Singh had complained of knee pain, diabetes and cataract. The hospital staff has filed a written complaint with the administration.
The GTB Employees’ Association has also complained the same to the administration. After the matter was brought to the notice of hospital administration, the hospital has deputed senior female paramedical staff to look after the patient.
The hospital staff said that no family member the patient has ever come to look after him since the last one month even though he has a son.
Medical Superintendent Dr Rajpal said, “We have banned the entry of female staff in the VVIP ward. Doctors and male staff has been deputed to look after the patient.”
He said that the former IAS officer is frustrated with his loneliness and hence takes such actions.
