PCO-owner gets relief from HC
The beautification drive for Commonwealth Games proved costly to the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) as Justice Rajiv Sahai Endlaw of the Delhi high court told the civic agency to pay a compensation of Rs 50,000 to a physically challenged man, Satish Manchanda, for allegedly demolishing his PCO booth in Delhi University.
Manchanda was completely dependent on the PCO booth for his livelihood. He moved the Delhi high court for compensation after the MCD allegedly demolished his booth for the beautification of the area.
Justice Endlaw directed the MCD to pay the amount to Manchanda within four weeks failing which it would incur an interest of 12 per cent per annum.
According to Manchanda, he had spent Rs 1.5 lakhs on the construction of the booth.
Due to the apathetic attitude of the MCD, the belongings in the shop were lost besides loss of his income which is estimated to be more than Rs 50,000.
Mr Manchanda claimed that he had been running the PCO for past several years and the MCD demolished his kiosk despite a stay order from this very court.
