PCR cops err, let killer driver flee

A 38-year-old man working at the residence of a sitting Lok Sabha MP in Lutyens’ Delhi was run over near the Israel embassy by an unidentified white car, which then made its way out of the area despite a massive security cover.

The police said that the deceased, identified as Chandan Singh, a native of Uttarakhand, was crossing the road near Israel embassy at around 7.45 pm on Sunday after returning from MP Naveen Jindal’s house where he works as a menial staff. An unidentified, speeding white car, reported to be an Ambassador used by government civil servants, ran over him, killing him on the spot.
The victim was taken to Lady Hardinge Hospital where doctors declared him brought dead. “We have not identified the vehicle so far. The driver seems to have lost control due to wet road after rains on Saturday evening. A group of Rajasthan Armed Police (RAP) personnel present near the scene of accident tried to chase the car in vain. We are trying to gather description of the vehicle and CCTV footage from some points in the area is being examined. So far, no one has been arrested,” a senior police official said.
The sources said a PCR van was deployed near Israel embassy which allegedly didn’t act in time to nab the erring driver when the accident happened. “Instead of chasing the car, the PCR cops got down from their vehicle and rushed towards the victim, who was already being attended by RAP personnel. They could have nabbed the accused had they given him a chase” a source said. Despite repeated attempts, additional commissioner of police (New Delhi), K.C. Dwivedi was not available for his comments.
The deceased is survived by his wife and a son. A case of rash and negligent driving causing death has been registered at the Tughlaq Road police station on Monday.

I want to begin with a little story that was told to me by a leading executive at Aptech. He was exercising in a gym with a lot of younger people.
