Peak-hour lane trials to hit traffic from today
Heavy traffic snarls are likely in the city as the Delhi traffic police will start the trial for dedicated Commonwealth Games lanes during peak hours for the next two days. The trials, which had so far been carried out between 11 am and 1 pm, will be carried out between 4 pm and 6 pm on Monday.
According to a Delhi traffic police advisory, the trial run will be carried out on Ring Road between Chandgi Ram Akhara and Mall Road, Nizamuddin Bridge crossing to Ghazipur crossing on NH-24, Maa Anandmayee Marg, Kalkaji to Dr Karni Singh Shooting range on Surajkund Road via Mehrauli-Badarpur Road, and from Panchsheel Marg-Sardar Patel Road intersection to Mother Teresa Crescent. While the timing for the lane trials on these stretches would be from 4 pm to 6 pm on Monday, it would be from 8 am to 10 am on Tuesday.
Traffic police officials said so far the trial was limited to non-peak hours but now it was necessary to assess the impact of keeping a dedicated lane for the CWG vehicles during peak hours.
The people have been advised to keep off the dedicated lane and follow the signages and the directions from the traffic policemen present.
The traffic movement is likely to be slow not only on the roads on lane trial runs but also on the arterial roads connected with them. Traffic may be impacted in areas like Nehru Place, Delhi-Ghaziabad border and certain New Delhi areas.
